Under supervision of the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources or other assigned administrator, performs technical duties and provides a variety of general and technical support assistance to prospective and current certificated and classified personnel; process new personnel.
Examples of DutiesOperates computer software to maintain position control and create a variety of reports.
Maintains, operates and monitors the automated substitute system, communicates with teachers, substitutes, District personnel, and outside agencies concerning absences, coverage, system malfunctions, and assigned activities.
Notify substitute employees of expiration dates of credentials and/or permits.
Contacts candidates selected for employment; prepares and explains employee paperwork, fingerprint information and physical exam paperwork; follows-up for complete clearance on fingerprints, physical and other pertinent employment information; establishes start dates; prepares and explains authorization to employ forms and other information; provides information regarding vacation days, sick days, benefits and other District rules and regulations; assure accuracy of input and output data..
Maintains records databases.
Verifies accuracy of personnel requisitions received and makes changes as needed.
Determines proper salary placement using contracts and Personnel Commission rules; works with Payroll Department to resolve problems.
Maintains personnel files; posts and retrieves documents.
Fingerprints new employees and volunteers as needed; forward fingerprints and related information to the Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigations
Maintain fingerprint collection fund and process deposits. Prepare and process requests for interfund transfers to cover expenditures.
Operates a variety of standard office equipment, such as a computer and applicable personnel and payroll software, telephone, fax machine, and copier.
Assists staff, applicants and the public by providing information related to the personnel function; researches, interprets and applies rules and regulations related to personnel policies and guidelines.
Performs various clerical and general office support activities including answering phones, taking messages, transferring calls, verifying employment, greeting visitors and other activities as assigned.
Performs other duties, related to the job, as assigned.

Minimum QualificationsGraduation from high school or GED equivalent AND minimum of two years experience in a human resources office performing general clerical duties. Successful completion of one (1) year of college level coursework in business administration, human resources management, information technology or a closely related field.

Hayward Unified School District does not pay for employee health and welfare benefits.
Full-time employees are required to purchase medical health benefits. Half-time and less than half-time employees may participate on a voluntary basis. Health benefit costs are 100% employee paid through a pre-tax payroll deduction. Employees may opt out of health coverage upon presentation of proof of alternate coverage.
Dental coverage is mandatory for all employees working 20 hours per week, or more, regardless of outside coverage. Less than half-time employees may participate on a voluntary basis. The District contributes the full premium for "employee only". Any additional premium will be employee paid.
