Summary:

The IT Hardware Technician provides campus-wide IT support across the Zoo’s 76-acre campus with 300,000 sq. ft. of building space. This role is responsible for ensuring the reliability of IT infrastructure, including hardware, software, networking, point-of-sale systems, and audio/visual platforms. The Hardware Technician will serve as a first-line responder for technical issues and play a key role in supporting Zoo operations, staff, and guest-facing technology.

Essential Functions

  • Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot desktop hardware, peripherals, and software applications.
  • Provide daily technical support for Zoo staff, including point-of-sale systems, servers, and telephony.
  • Support and maintain networking infrastructure: user account creation, access management, security configuration, and shared resource management.
  • Provide audio/visual setup and support for Zoo meetings, events, and public programs.
  • Monitor, document, and resolve IT service tickets in a timely manner; maintain knowledge base of recurring issues and solutions.
  • Perform routine upgrades, patch management, and preventative maintenance for IT systems.
  • Assist with IT projects, system rollouts, and infrastructure upgrades.
  • Ensure compliance with IT security protocols and Zoo policies.
  • Collaborate with other IT team members to improve efficiency, service quality, and user satisfaction.

Required Education And Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Education And Experience

  • Associate’s degree in Information Technology or related field, OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting hardware, software, and networking issues.

Reporting Structure: Reports to IT Manager.

Position Type/Expected Hours Of Work

Full-time positions are defined as positions scheduled to work approximately up to 40 hours a week. Scheduling is at the discretion of the manager. Occasional evening, weekend, and holiday work required to provide coverage during Zoo hours of operation and events.

This position is considered non-exempt under the federal and state wage and hour laws.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of the job, the employee will alternate work between outdoor settings (Zoo grounds), and a typical office environment. When outdoors this position is required to work in various weather conditions including rain, humidity, and extreme heat or cold. Role will frequently require the need to travel across Zoo grounds with or without the use of an electric golf cart.

Physical Demands : The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

This position requires frequent sitting/standing/walking/bending/kneeling and may occasionally move or lift objects up to 50 pounds. Frequent use of hand tools is required. Occasional climbing and balancing required.
