Job Purpose:

Create and implement a dynamic and inclusive visual arts program that fosters creativity, critical thinking, and personal expression. Develop lesson plans aligned with school goals and art education standards. Build strong relationships with students, staff, and families. Inspire students to explore various art forms, techniques, and cultural perspectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Instruction/Education Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver a comprehensive visual arts curriculum that includes drawing, painting, sculpture, mixed media, and digital art.
  • Develop engaging lesson plans that incorporate art history, cultural relevance, and creative exploration.
  • Provide students with opportunities to showcase their work through exhibitions, school displays, and community events.
  • Assess student progress regularly and adapt instruction to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Maintain accurate records of student performance and participation.
  • Stay current with best practices in art education and integrate technology where appropriate.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to support cross-curricular learning and school-wide initiatives.

Classroom Environment:

  • Create a safe, inclusive, and inspiring classroom environment that encourages artistic risk-taking and self-expression.
  • Display student artwork to celebrate creativity and foster pride.
  • Establish and maintain clear expectations for behavior and studio practices.
  • Manage classroom materials, tools, and supplies responsibly.

Instructional Planning:

  • Develop lesson plans aligned with state standards and school objectives.
  • Incorporate a variety of artistic styles, techniques, and cultural influences.
  • Plan for individual and group instruction to accommodate different learning styles and abilities.
  • Participate in curriculum development and school-wide planning.

School/Community Relations:

  • Communicate regularly and positively with parents/guardians about student progress and upcoming events.
  • Collaborate with staff and administration to support school culture and student success.
  • Organize and lead art-related extracurricular activities and events.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.


Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Art Education or related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Valid teaching certification in Art (K–12 or appropriate level).
  • Minimum of one (1) to three (3) years of successful teaching experience (may include Student Teaching Internship).
  • Strong knowledge of visual arts techniques, history, and pedagogy.
  • Proficiency in a variety of art media and tools.
  • Effective classroom management and instructional skills.
  • Commitment to the school’s mission and values.
  • Successful results of criminal and employment background check.
  • Adherence to the Code of Ethics for the Education Profession.
