Position Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to provide financial leadership, structure, and decision support to ownership.

The CFO will serve as a trusted thought partner to ownership, bringing clarity to financial performance, identifying risks and opportunities, and helping prioritize initiatives that drive profitability, cash flow, and long-term growth. This is a hands-on leadership role suited for a pragmatic operator who can both set strategy and ensure execution.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Leadership & Strategy

  • Act as the senior financial advisor to ownership and executive leadership

  • Translate financial data into clear, actionable insights to support decision-making

  • Develop financial frameworks to evaluate growth initiatives, capital investments, and operational improvements

  • Identify financial risks, constraints, and opportunities across the organization

Financial Reporting & Visibility

  • Ensure timely, accurate monthly financial statements and meaningful management reporting

  • Improve visibility into unit-level performance, margins, and cost drivers

  • Establish clear KPIs, dashboards, and forecasting processes

  • Drive accountability through consistent reporting and performance review

Accounting, Controls & Compliance

  • Oversee all accounting functions, including close, financial reporting, and policy

  • Ensure GAAP compliance and strong internal controls

  • Lead audit readiness and coordination with external auditors and tax advisors

  • Improve documentation, consistency, and scalability of financial processes

Cash Flow, Liquidity & Capital

  • Manage cash flow, liquidity planning, and working capital

  • Support banking relationships, financing needs, and covenant compliance

  • Evaluate capital allocation decisions, including new locations, remodels, and systems investments

Operational & Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Partner closely with operations, HR, payroll, and IT to ensure financial alignment

  • Improve integration between financial systems and operational data

  • Help clarify decision rights and reduce financial bottlenecks involving ownership

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the finance and accounting team

  • Clarify roles, responsibilities, and escalation paths within the function

  • Build a finance organization that balances accuracy, efficiency, and forward-looking insight

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

  • 10+ years of progressive finance and accounting leadership experience

  • Experience serving as a senior financial leader (CFO, VP Finance, or Controller with strategic scope)

  • Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls

  • Proven ability to operate in complex, multi-entity environments

  • Experience partnering directly with owners or senior executives

Preferred

  • Experience in multi-unit, retail, restaurant, hospitality, or operational businesses

  • CPA, CMA, or MBA strongly preferred

  • Track record of improving financial visibility, close timelines, and decision support

  • Experience in owner-led or private equity-backed organizations
